A “freemover” is a student who indpendently organizes a study abroad period. This might be a possibility for you if you were not selected by the International Office to study at one of our partner universities or if you wish to choose your own university in a specific country where currently no partnership agreements are available.
But you should keep in mind that the freemover program can be quite expensive because you must pay the university fees which are significantly higher than the ones you pay at the University of Kaiserslautern. The amount of the university fees depends on the country and also on the university. Nevertheless there are several options to finance your study abroad period. Financing possibilities are the "Auslands-BAföG" and the DAAD scholarships, among others. Further information can be found at http://www.auslandsbafoeg.de/ and http://www.uni-kl.de/studium/im-studium/studium-ausland/europa/promos/ .
Basically you are allowed to study at any university around the world. But please make sure that you sign a learning agreement for every subject you want to take abroad before you pay the university fees. Otherwise you might get problems with the acceptance of your subjects. For further questions please contact the international office of your selected university.
In the following folders you will find some experience reports from freemover students of the University of Kaiserslautern who studied in their desired universities/countries.
